Betty Emma Jean Waymire was born January 13, 1931 to Alfred E. Wilson and Chlorner King Wilson in Rivera, California. She passed away May 1, 2018 in Tulsa. Her nickname "Bean" was given to her as a baby in California. At age 9, they moved back to Oklahoma and lived in the Boatman area where she and her sister, Lova, and brothers J.C. and Jr. attended elementary school. The family then moved to Pryor and she graduated from 8th grade at Pryor Schools. She later earned her GED in 1981 from Claremore College.
Emma had many jobs in her lifetime. As a young woman she worked in food services. In later years she worked in sewing factories in Claremore and Pryor.
In 1976, on her Dad's birthday, February 18, Emma married the man of her dreams. After Junior Leon Waymire asked her to "Dance with me" they enjoyed a wonderful life together. Leon preceded her in death on September 7, 2000.
After Leon's death she embarked on another career. When Becky Rogers saw her standing in the hall at Roosevelt School, as she was taking her great-grandkids to school, she approached Emma asking her to foster grandparent. Emma quickly accepted that challenge and became "Grandma Bean" to a multitude of children. She was so loved by Becky and the children that it gave her a new lease on life. She worked with Becky until Becky retired, then Mrs. Douglas, but her heart belonged to her granddaughter, Cori, so she went to Lincoln Early Childhood and then to Jefferson with Cori and a wonderful group of second graders.
In 2013, kidney failure caused her to change course again. She met a wonderful group of angels at DaVita Dialysis Center. They made her feel like family. Emma always had the ability to make friends wherever she went and she quickly became a favorite there. We will always appreciate the kindness of these special people.
Emma is survived by her older sister, Lova Painter of Pryor, her children Betty Jo Hodson and husband Wayne of Pryor, Terry Elliott and wife Mary of Pryor, Larry Elliott of Inola; daughter-in-law Shirley Husband of Pryor; children June Faught of Claremore, Connie Quinton of Oolagah, and Mike and Monica Waymire of Vinita; 21 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Emma was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Waymire; her parents, Alfred and Chlorner Wilson; brothers, J.C. and Junior Wilson; son, Steven Ray Husband; and grandsons Duane Faught and Heath Elliott.
