Cemetery notes and/or description:
The Shady Lane Cemetery was at one time known also as the McWhorter Cemetery. Commodore P. McWhorter drew land in the 1901 lottery. He drew 160 acres in Section 24, 10N-12W SE quarter (Sickles Township). Land from his farm was donated to start the African-American Cemetery. The earliest stone found was dated 1917 but the Binger Journal mentions a burial on the McWhorter land as early as 1908.
This cemetery is located about 3 ½ miles West of Binger on Highway 152 to the Three Way Corner Stop. Drive 2 1/4 miles north and turn left. The cemetery is approximately ¼ mile West on a dirt road
