Jess E. Davis was the son of George R. Davis and Alice Brown Davis, who was the one-time Seminole Indian Nation Chief. Jess E. Davis married Ella Knight. They were the parents of several children.

Jess Davis and his father, George, bought the Arbeka general store that was established by Nero B. Jones. They ran the store until business gradually decreased due to the nearby competition, and they were forced to the point where they had to close their store.

The following obituary was found in the family scrapbook of Jess's sister, Myrtle Davis Aldridge: "JESSE EDWIN DAVIS - Jesse Edwin Davis passed away Thursday morning at 4 o'clock, April 21, 1921, at his country home near the old family place Arbeka at the age of 41 years, and 5 months. He had been ill for several months never having fully recovered from the effects of an attack of influenza. Born at Sasakwa, Ind. Ter. Seminole Nation, Nov. 22, 1879, he was joined in marriage to Miss Ella Knight, May 12, 1890. To this union were born five sons and one daughter. Jesse as he was called by all who knew him was a loyal friend, his chief aim in life was to give pleasure to others, he was a member of the original 1st Separate troop A Cavalry of Okemah. The funeral was held from the home, the services being conducted by Rev. Clarke of Wewoka, the Indian services by Rev. Tingo Frank of Schoolton. He was laid to rest on the summit of the hill, the family burial place at Arbeka. Besides his wife and children he leaves a mother, six sisters, two brothers and a host of friends to mourn his loss."
