Frank CANTON

Fairlawn Cemetery
Oklahoma County,
Oklahoma

1849 - September 27, 1925

His real name was Joe Horner and he had to flee Texas where he was a wanted rustler and murderer. He traveled to Wyoming where he assumed the Alias Frank Canton and continued his killing ways, but it was for the large Wyoming ranchers who provided "legality" for his activities. After the large ranchers lost the "Johnson County War" in Wyoming, he moved to Oklahoma where he became a noted lawman and statewide hero. He became the first adjutant general of the state of Oklahoma. AS his body lay in state in the state capitol he was visited by former governors, congressmen, judges, and professors. Few, if any knew that Frank Canton was the former Joe Horner. For his complete life story one should read "Alias Frank Canton" by Robert DeArment.
