James Carl Pinkerton, 73, lost his long fight with cancer on October 14, 2009. Jim was born on February 9, 1936 at Morningside Hospital, now Hillcrest Hospital. His parents were Jean Hagler Pinkerton and Carl Pinkerton. He attended Lee School, Horace Mann Junior High and Central High School. He then went on to Princeton University becoming a member of the Class of 1957. In 1960, he graduated from the University of Oklahoma Law School and was awarded the Order of the Coif. James then entered the practice of law with his father. He became an associate bar examiner from 1961- 1973 and examiner from 1973-1985. In the late 1960's he was certified to appear before the U.S. Supreme Court. In 1979, he was chairman of the Board of Bar Examiners. Also during this time, 1978-1980, he was the president of the Tulsa State Planning Forum and a long time member of Tulsa Title and Probate lawyers. Jim was one of the lawyers who conducted early settlement negotiations for the courts. Jim engaged in various business and investments outside of law, including being an underwriter of Lloyd's of London and owning motels in Nashville and Memphis, Tennessee. James is survived by his loving wife, Nieta; daughter, Beth Sewell; son, John Pinkerton and five grandchildren. Friends may wish to remember Jim by sending memorial donations to the charity of their choice. Service will be held 1 p.m., Monday, October 19, 2009, at Boston Avenue Methodist Church, 13th & Boston, Tulsa, with interment to follow at Oaklawn Cemetery. Fitzgerald Funeral Service - the Ivy Chapel.
