William E "Bert" (Famous) CASEY

Summit View Cemetery
Logan County,
Oklahoma

Of all the outlaws to operate in the Indian territory, Bert was one of the most violent. He and his gang not only killed Deputy US Marshall Luther "Lute" Houston, Caddo County Sheriff Frank Smith and his deputy, George Beck, they also killed the eleven year old son of Dr. Zeno Beenblossum. He used a farmer working in his field 400 yards away to judge the accuracy and range of his new Winchester. Casey was finally stopped by two of his former gang members, Fred Hudson and Ed Lockett, who were commissioned as US Marshalls and promised a pardon if they would capture or kill him. They killed him. No one claimed his body so he was buried in the Boot Hill section of the graveyard.
