Woodie To Be Kept in Jail At Chickasha; Richard's Funeral Set Wednesday
Woodie Tilghman, 16 years old, will not attend the funeral of his brother, Richard, 21 years old, here Wednesday morning. Although Woodie asked that he be brought to Oklahoma City to attend the services, it was announced at the office of Matt Sankey, sheriff, that the force was too busy to spare a man to accompany the youth.
Final rites for Richard will be conducted by Rev. Forney Hutchinson, pastor of St. Luke's Methodist church, at the chapel of the Hahn funeral home, 119 W. 10th street, Wednesday morning at 9:30 o'clock.
The body will be taken to Chandler for burial beside the grave of the youth's father, the late Bill Tilghman, pioneer peace officer.
Grady county officials said Woodie was scheduled for preliminary hearing Thursday on a charge of murder in connection with the death of James Chitwood, Minco farmer, at whose home Richard was fatally wounded October 6.
Richard, his uncle, Alfred Stratton, and Jack Reynolds, also were charged jointly with Woodie. All except Richard were arraigned and entered pleas of not guilty. Death came Monday as officials waited for improvement in the injured youth's condiction in order that he too, might be arraigned before the date tentatively set for the preliminary.
