Funeral services for Mary Lenora Tonahcot, 63, were held Friday, July 23, 2004 at 10:00 am at the Ware's Chapel with Rev. Mike Harjo, Pastor of Ware's Chapel and Rev Amon Harjo officiating.
Prayer services were held Thursday, July 22 at 7:00 pm at the Steverson Funeral Chapel.
Mary was born November 11, 1940 in Lawton to Thompson and Ethelene (Haumpy) Poafpybitty and died Wednesday, July 21, 2004 at the Comanche Memorial Hospital in Lawton following a Lengthy illness.
She was a lifetime resident of Caddo County. She attended Riverside Indian School and graduated from Broxton High School. She attended Oklahoma State Technical College in Okmulgee, receiving an associate's degree in secretarial services.
She and Monroe Tonahcot were married in December 1982 in Carnegie. She worked at Hollytex Carpet Mills, the Indian Action Office in Apache and for the Kiowa Tribal office in Carnegie. She had to retire several years ago due to her health. She was a member of the Kiowa Tribe of Oklahoma. She attended the White Church in Carnegie and Ware's Chapel. She loved to sew and cook for family and friends. She enjoyed attended pow-wows and playing Bingo.
She was preceded in death by her father, Thompson Poafphbitty; parents Ethelene and Jasper Sankadota; granddaughters, Brandi L Ware and Jill Ware; Brothers, her twin, Thomas Graham Poafphbitty, Danny Sankadota and Jim Vinyard, niece, Amy Sankadota.
She is survived by her husband, Monroe of the home in Apache; sons, Terry Ware, Bobby Ware, and his wife, Kaykla, Wilson Ware, Timothy Ware and his wife, Carla, Anthony DeLaune, Monroe Tonahcot, Jr, Ronald Tonahcot, Robert Tonahcot and William Tonahcot, daughter RHonda Tonahcot, brothers Bruce Poafpybitty, Virgil Poafpybitty, Dale Sankadota, Donald Sankadota, James Sankadota, and Jasper Sankadota Jr; sisters, Gail Sankadota, Gloria Sankadota, Irma Sankadota, and Joyce Vinyard;
grandchildren, Terry Jr, Jana, Jamee, Benjamin, Lindsay, Elizabeth, Stormy, Blade, Whisper, Bobby Jr, Hunee, Wilson Jr, Tyson, Devin, Lee, Kyle, Cole, Malika, Raven, Timothy Jr, and Bradley; one greatgrandchild; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and many loving friends.
Burial was in the Satepauhoodle Family Cemetery east of Carnegie under the direction of the Steverson Funeral Home in Anadarko
